Cities worldwide, including those in the Czech Republic, are implementing ambitious projects that integrate cutting-edge technologies with urban management and crisis response. One of the emerging trends is the establishment of urban drone centers, which leverage advanced unmanned aerial systems for efficient data collection and analysis. These centers pave the way for innovative approaches to urban planning, environmental protection, and enhanced security.

Project goals

The primary goal is to establish and equip an urban drone center that will enable efficient monitoring and data collection within the city. Drones equipped with state-of-the-art sensors, cameras, and 5G connectivity will revolutionize areas such as crisis management, urban planning, public space management, energy efficiency, and security monitoring.

Key Elements of the Project

Drone Procurement and Implementation – A diverse fleet of drones of various sizes and categories will be equipped with multispectral cameras, thermal imaging, laser scanners, and other advanced technologies.

5G Connectivity – Deployment of 5G technology for real-time data transmission and distribution during flight and beyond the intervention site. This includes live video streaming to operation centers, crisis management teams, and emergency response bases, as well as remote control of onboard drone equipment for better coordination. Subject to future legislative changes, 5G could also enable remote operation of the drones themselves, not just their equipment.

Data Processing and Analysis – Implementation of sophisticated software and analytical tools for generating orthophoto maps, 3D models, traffic analysis, search-and-rescue operations, structural integrity inspections, and environmental monitoring.

Operator Training – Professional training programs focused on drone operation, aerial data analysis, workplace safety, and privacy protection.

Security and Legislation – Integration of regulatory requirements and standardized procedures for the legal use of drones in urban environments, ensuring full compliance with the Civil Aviation Authority and relevant legislation.

Education – The project includes the acquisition of educational kits for primary and secondary school students, allowing them to gain hands-on experience with drone technology by assembling and programming their own drones.

Benefits

Drone centers position cities among technologically progressive administrative units and bring tangible benefits in urban planning and security. The main advantages include rapid assessment of traffic situations, more efficient management of urban greenery, improved monitoring of crisis areas, and faster response to emergency events.

This concept is becoming a significant example of modern urban management and an inspiration for other urban projects not only in the Czech Republic but also abroad. At the same time, it represents an important step forward in the development of unmanned aerial systems, including automated and, in the long term, fully autonomous drone operations.

Our role

In collaboration with expert partners, we have developed a vision for the use of unmanned aerial systems in the client’s environment, the basic project concept, the minimum functional and technical requirements to achieve the set goals, and all necessary documentation for selecting a qualified supplier.
